The third Annual Convention of National Association of Realtors

   

The third Annual Convention of National Association of Realtors - India (NAR-lndia) promises to be bigger and better than its earlier editions attracted the entire real estate community and its stakeholders, says irshad Ahmed, Secretary, NAR-lndia.

The third Annual Convention of NAR-lndia, held at Hyderabad on July 23 and 24, 2011, promised opportunites to interact, network, market and build relationships, and also provided a great interface for education programmes, expo and cultural activities with participation from brokers from all over India, the US and Europe.
 

As NAR-lndia moves along, it takes on many challenges, the prime one being on the education front, while an effort has been made to put together a Real Estate Membership Entry Test (RE-MET) with support from the India Institute of Real Estate (IIRE). Efforts are underway to create a nationwide Real Estate Foundation Education Programme with qualified education players and a possible collaboration with the National Skill Development
 
Corporation of the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Along with participation from realtors and builders and developers, the convention this year aims to bring together delegates from allied industries like architects, lawyers, investors, venture capitalist firms, equity funds and financial institutions. The Andhra Pradesh Realtors Association (APRA) will host the convention to be held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) with an estimated participation of over 1,000 delegates. During the two-day event, activities like stall expositions, panel discus-sions, brain storming sessions, cul-tural activities, networking evenings and special ticketed events will also be conducted.


NAR-lndia Convention has Indian School of Business (ISB) as its knowl¬edge partner this year, with industry participation by Raheja Developers Ltd, Lodha Group, Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc, Indu Projects Ltd, HDFC, Ramky Infra and Remax India, among others.


NAR-lndia was established about four years ago as the apex national level organisation of real estate brokers, representing various regions of India. As in all parts of the world, real estate constitutes a key pillar of the national economy and a significant contribu¬tor to the GDP, and NAR-lndia aims to elevate the standards of practice of the real estate brokerage business to a global level where ethics, transpar-ency, accountability, rule of law and good governance.
Farook Mahmood, Past Presi¬dent of NAR-lndia, was nominated to represent NAR-lndia to serve on the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA) Executive Council.
 

THE HISTORY
 

Major leading local real estate city associations, with the help of Naresh Malkani of Indian Institute of Real Es¬tate (IIRE) invited Norman D Flynn and his associates from NAR-USA to a preliminary think tank meeting in New Delhi in October 2006. Followed by a High Powered Committee meeting held in Feb 2007 in Delhi to formalise the structure of NAR-lndia, in mid-2007 NAR-lndia was regis¬tered and its first governing body was elected.
The governing body of NAR-lndia gave a detailed business report to Norman D Flynn, President and CEO, International Real property Foundation (IRPF) - USA, who was gracious enough to support NAR-lndia financially and also provide the technical knowhow in running a successful national level real estate association.
The first Annual Convention of NAR-lndia was held in Pune on March 6 and 7, 2009. A National Directory was published and released in 2010 at a grand function held in Mumbai.
 
The second Annual Convention of NAR-lndia was held in Chennai on July 17,2010.


Today, NAR-lndia has a membership of 16 city real estate associations in India with strength close to 1,500 members. Four more associations are expected to join NAR-lndia at its third Annual Convention at Hyderabad. NAR-lndia continues to be mentored by IRPF, and has forged a partner¬ship with FNAIM, the French Property Foundation. It has also signed an MoU with the National Housing Bank of the Government of India for providing data on creating the official residential property price index - RESIDEX for India. The organistion receives sup¬port from Baro, NAR-USA President's Liasion to NAR-lndia, and Thijs Stoffer, CEO of International Consortium of Real Estate Association (ICREA), are providing NAR-lndia with all the international support and technical assistance needed.
 

CONTRIBUTION OF NAR-INDIA

NAR-lndia has made significant strides and launched key education courses and programs. Transnational Referral Certification (TRC), Real Estate Brokerage Management, Professional Valuation of Real Estate and Marketing Real Estate for Profit were some of the courses conducted, with financial and technical support of IRPF.

Its official website www.narindia.com has been revamped to allow members to list their properties online
