RMC Plants at Large Construction Sites

Role of RMC plants at large construction sites

To ensure strength and durability, concrete must be produced properly. The ease with which quality control measures can be taken at the production stage is not available at later stages of transportation  and   placement of concrete.   Therefore, installing  a   batching plant at site has become a basic need for large-scale infrastructure projects.

While a ready-mix concrete (RMC) plant is installed to carry out the business of selling concrete, a concrete batching plant is installed at site for in-situ production of concrete. An RMC plant also includes a batching plant. Both aim to produce concrete under fully controlled conditions. Batching plants with capacities of 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 250 and 330 cu m per hour are now being produced in India by using fully imported mixing units.

The features

A batching plant must exhibit minimum wear and tear, consume minimum energy and be easy to maintain. It needs to achieve accurate weigh-batching of concrete ingredients and desired concrete output and have multiple-mix design options. Other features to look out for include automatic controls, manual switchover option, low consumption of consumables, emergency stoppage arrangements, and safe operation. Further, spares should be easily available.

A concrete batching plant comprises storage, batching and mixing equipment, control systems, enabling and access equipment, and a conveyor system. The capacity or output of each of these components is linked to the capacity of the batching plant.
